Design Pick of the Week: Monadnock Pediatric Dentistry

Monadnock Pediatric Dentistry business sign

A colleague down in the Monadnock Region captured this cute business sign on her camera phone recently. For every parent whose child imagines the dentist being like those crazy scenes in Finding Nemo, this sign suggests that Monadnock Pediatric Dentistry is the calm, kid-oriented environment they are looking for.

First, the moose. What kid doesn’t love a friendly moose? He’s a cartoon, he’s smiling. And, he’s carrying a toothbrush in his antlers. A giant red toothbrush. Just picture the size of the toothpaste tube he’d need to go along with that brush! Exactly the sort of mental image to distract a nervous child.

The basic, earthy colors are very calm – there’s that word again – and therefore non-threatening for kids. The playful font for the business name makes me think of a kid with a marker. Both the colors and the lettering underscore what I presume the office’s interior design is like: nothing stuffy or too clinical, just warm and welcoming for children.

Owner Nancy Jun D.D.S. may have also chosen the moose and pine trees (and is that Mt. Monadnock in the background?) for a secondary reason as well. This dental practice is not simply a branch of a larger dental franchise. It’s clearly a Jaffrey, New Hampshire original, where (as the police blotter has been known to report) moose do occasionally wander down the main street.
